Pacifier Addiction?
This is a blog I’m sure, lots of parents will relate too!
Every
transitional period in a young child’s life can be pretty traumatic, for both
parent and child. I hope this book will make life just a little easier for the
40% Yes 40%! Of toddlers who have “Pacifier Addiction”!
Most
children are introduced to the pacifier pretty soon after birth. Then normally
the weaning process begins at between 1 and 2 years of age.
By that age, babies have been weaned from breast feeding, bottle feeding or both, weaned from liquids to solids etc. So in fact, weaning shouldn't be anything new for a child right? However, through all these transitional periods, there's always been one constant - yes, the pacifier!
I’m not a Doctor or a Dentist Just a Parent
Joey
came into our care at just 20 months old. As new Foster Parents (never having
children of our own) we fell in love instantly. Joey was addicted to his
pacifier. We decided to wait until he was 2 years old to wean him from the
habit, giving him chance to settle in, feel comfortable, and with the least
amount of stress.
Firstly
we decided on losing it. Not a chance, he cried, screamed, wouldn’t go to sleep
and basically I didn’t have the heart to keep it up.
Then my sister recommended playing a game of leaving the
pacifier outside for Mama Chip Monk as she needed a pacifier for her little
baby Chippy. Well, Joey decided that if Chippy wanted a pacifier then his Mama
should just go to the store and buy him one!
My Sister did admit later, that she used this method on her daughter but with raccoons. Danielle is now 27 years old and apparently has and intense hatred of raccoons, she just can't remember why!
Joey would not part with his pacifier, the only time it actually came out of his mouth was when he was eating. Every time I tried to take it away, or pretend to lose it, he screamed and cried, wouldn't sleep. I was at my wits end.
Then a friend suggested poling a hole in his existing pacifier, as this renders the pacifier unsatisfying for the child. I tried it and it worked. Within a few days Joey actually weaned himself, just put it aside one day and that was that!
Do Not Snip Holes in Pacifiers
Then a couple of years later, purely by chance, I came across an article about this "do it yourself" pacifier weaning method. Apparently snipping holes or altering your child's pacifier in any way can be pretty dangerous.
The pacifier loses it's integrity and slivers of silicon can become in-bedded in the child's gums, or bits can break off and even create a choking hazard!

I was pretty horrified!
So I decided to develop a pacifier weaning system, based on a regular pacifier but with a manufactured hole, still works the same but totally safe.
Hence "Ditch The Dummy" was born - a one step pacifier weaning system. Simply exchange your child's existing pacifier with "Ditch The Dummy" and let your child wean themselves and at their own pace.
Now I can help
other parents with a very difficult toddler transition, and at an affordable price - just $6.95 plus s&h.
